Kayshon Boutte has had a roller-coaster career trajectory over the past two years. Brian Kelly awarded him with the famed No. 7 jersey prior to the start of his junior year on the bayou. He was projected as high as a first-round draft pick by many analysts.
In Game 1 against Florida State, Boutte struggled as he only made two receptions for 20 yards. After the game, Boutte removed everything he had posted that was connected to LSU on his social media. Rumors were flying that he was leaving the Tigers after only one game.
Ultimately, he returned to the team and played in 10 more games last season. He had 48 receptions for 538 yards and two touchdowns. He capped the year off by having one of his best performances of the year against Georgia in the SEC Championship game. He had six receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown in that game.
That game seemed to improve his draft stock to being a fringe first or second-round pick. Boutte wound up being picked with the 187th pick of the 6th round by the New England Patriots. In the preseason, he was given an opportunity to show he had what it takes to make the 53-man roster. He had four receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown. That proved to be enough to get him on the roster.
