Katie Ledecky qualifies for Olympic 200m, 1500m freestyle in span of two hours

It has been five years since Katie Ledecky was in an Olympic pool, but that doesn't mean she has stopped dominating every swimmer in sight.

The five-time Olympic gold medalist blew away the field in the 200m race at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Wednesday, then did the same thing less than 90 minutes later in the 1500m. She already won the 400m race on Monday and is expected to win in the 800m Saturday.

That would give Ledecky four individual races in the Tokyo Games, not to mention potential spots on the U.S. relay teams.

Katie Ledecky doing Katie Ledecky things

There are so many ways to show the dominance of Katie Ledecky, but a new one may be NBC's Olympics Twitter account not even bothering to mention her when tweeting out video of a race that she won. Her victory was basically a given:

That win by a full body length over the rest of her country's best swimmers was only the warm-up.

For the first time in Olympic history, the Tokyo Games will feature the women's 1500m race, which happens to be Ledecky's best event. She holds the 10 best times in swimming history among women and has broken the world record six times.

Racing for a shot at the first gold medal in the history of the event, Ledecky did not disappoint:

That right there is a win by a full 11 seconds, and also not even close to Ledecky's best time in the 1500m. Her time of 15:40.50 was more than 20 seconds short of her world record 15:20.48, which has been something of a recurring issue at the Olympic trials. Her 200m time was nearly two seconds short of her personal best, and her 400m was nearly five seconds short.

You can mark that as a potential problem or room for improvement after a year of training interrupted by a pandemic. Either way, Ledecky is set to be one of the top athletes to keep an eye on in Tokyo.
