There are quite a few big name players that teams need to re-sign or trade over the next year

Monday is the trade deadline and it will be a busy day at NHL headquarters (as well as Rotoworld). There are still five games to be played that night so it’s likely that most players traded on Monday will not be in their new team’s lineup come the evening.

All the deals over the next 72 hours will change line combinations etc. and that will make a big difference in picking your fantasy lineups. Joey Alfieri and myself will be doing our podcast after the deadline ends and tweet us with any questions you may have.

As well we will have an article up on Tuesday with the winners and losers from the trade deadline (as well as deals made in the last couple of weeks), as well as every transaction up-to-the-minute on Monday afternoon.

It will be busy but it should be a fun Monday for all.

There is plenty of information and good chatter always on the Rotoworld Hockey Podcast. Listen here.

Editor's Note: Rotoworld’s Season Pass is now available for the low price of $19.99. You get plenty of extra articles including the minor league report, the junior report and much, much more. Buy it now!

WEEK OF FEBRUARY 26-MARCH 4

4 Games – Carolina, Colorado, Columbus, Florida, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Montreal, Nashville, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, Vegas

3 Games – Boston, Calgary, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Edmonton, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, San Jose, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington, Winnipeg

2 Games - Anaheim, Arizona, Buffalo

Nashville plays all four games on the road.

Colorado and Florida play all four games at home.

Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, New Jersey, the New York Rangers, Ottawa, Philadelphia and Toronto play three games on the road.

Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Jose and Tampa Bay play three games at home.

INJURIES

Patrick Maroon has a lower body injury and is day-to-day. That could hamper his trade value Monday. (Click here to see the rest of the injury list.)

Note: A tired team is one that has played the day or night before and is going against a team that did not play the previous day or night. The reverse is true for a rested team.

ANAHEIM

Games this week

vs. Columbus, vs. Chicago

Rested Team: vs. Columbus (Friday), vs. Chicago (Sunday)

Tired Team: None

Notes

John Gibson is out of the lineup as he suffered a lower body injury against Vegas on Monday. Ryan Miller is the starter for now and he has responded quite well with 20 saves in the third period Monday to maintain the shutout and a 41-save effort Wednesday in a 2-0 shutout over Dallas. GM Bob Murray decided to fly the Ducks out to Vegas on game day rather than the night before and the Ducks responded by beating the Golden Knights in Vegas for only the fifth time in regulation this season. perhaps more teams should consider doing that. Hampus Lindholm has nine goals and 22 points in 49 games this season. Grab him in your leagues next year.

ARIZONA

Games this week

vs. Minnesota, vs. Ottawa

Rested Team: vs. Ottawa (Saturday)

Tired Team: None

Notes

The Coyotes dealt Tobias Rieder and Scott Wedgewood to Los Angeles for Darcy Kuemper Wednesday and promptly signed him to a two-year/$3.7 million deal. Kuemper was sensational for the Kings this season with a 10-1-3 record with a 2.10 GAA and a .932 save percentage and should back up Antti Raanta nicely to give the Coyotes solid netminding. Raanta was the NHL’s second star of the week as he had a 3-0-0 record with a 0.90 GAA and a .976 save percentage. Clayton Keller has three goals and eight points in his last six contests and has 17 goals and 44 points in 59 games. Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s name has been bandied about in trade talks but he has only eight goals and 29 points this season, the same stats as teammate Alex Goligoski heading into action Thursday.

BOSTON

Games this week

vs. Carolina, vs. Pittsburgh, vs. Montreal

Rested Team: vs. Montreal (Saturday)

Tired Team: None

Notes

The Bruins acquired some depth on their blueline when they picked up Nick Holden from the Rangers for Rob O'Gara and a third round pick in 2018. Holden has only three goal and 12 points in 55 games this season but had 11 goals and 34 points last season with New York. Riley Nash has three goals and six points in his last seven games. Anders Bjork will miss the rest of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery this week. It should take six months to recover and therefore will be ready barring any setbacks for training camp. Patrice Bergeron leads the Bruins in goals with 27, five ahead of linemates Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak.

BUFFALO

Games this week

@ Tampa Bay, @ Florida

Rested Team: @ Florida (Friday)

Tired Team: None

Notes

There have been no updates on the status of Jack Eichel who is trying to recover from a high-ankle sprain suffered almost two weeks ago. The Sabres are going nowhere so it may be prudent to let him sit the rest of the way and start over again next season. Evan Rodrigues has taken over his spot on the top line. Robin Lehner returned to action on Thursday and stopped 35 shots in a win over Detroit. The netminder sat out Monday with a hip injury that was obviously not serious. Don’t expect to see Evander Kane suit up for Buffalo this week as the pending UFA should be dealt to a contender. Jake McCabe will miss the next four-six months after undergoing shoulder surgery.

CALGARY

Games this week

@ Dallas, @ Colorado, vs. New York Rangers

Rested Team: None

Tired Team: @ Colorado (Wednesday)

Notes

The Flames play three games this week in four nights. Mike Smith is still out with a groin injury and if he is not able to go, David Rittich will get two starts with Jon Gillies getting one. Smith is travelling with the team this week so he could be ready to go in Dallas and if so, look for Rittich to get one start with Smith getting a pair. Johnny Gaudreau hit the 20 goal mark Thursday and when you add in his 53 assists, it puts him second in points in the NHL scoring race behind only Nikita Kucherov. Sean Monahan has 28 goals and 57 points in 61 games and is only three goals and five points away from tying career highs with a quarter of the season to go. Michael Ferland was taken off the top line Thursday and replaced by Sam Bennett who had a goal and an assist. Ferland could be hurt as he did not play in the third period Thursday.

CAROLINA

Games this week

@ Boston, @ Philadelphia, vs. New Jersey, vs. Winnipeg

Rested Team: None

Tired Team:  None

Notes

The Hurricanes play four games this week including three in four nights. Look for Cam Ward to get the call three times with Scott Darling playing once, likely in one of the back-to-back games on Wednesday and Thursday against Philadelphia and New Jersey. The Hurricanes recalled Josh Jooris and sent Lucas Wallmark back to the minors. Jeff Skinner is only 25 and picked up the 200th goal of his NHL career on Sunday. Jaccob Slavin has points in five of his last six games and is a plus-eight in his last six to get him up to minus-six on the season. Noah Hanifin has slowed down a ton with only one assist in his last 10 games and has seven goals and 26 points in 60 games this season.

 CHICAGO

Games this week

@ San Jose, @ Los Angeles, @ Anaheim

Rested Team: None

Tired Team: @ Anaheim (Sunday)

Notes

The Blackhawks play three games in four nights. Corey Crawford (vertigo) is looking more and more like he is gone for the season for Anton Forsberg to play twice and Jean-Francois Berube once this week.  The Blackhawks sit dead last in the Central Division and will be sellers at the trade deadline with UFAs such as Tommy Wingels and Patrick Sharp (if anyone is interested) likely to be dealt elsewhere. Alex DeBrincat has been a great surprise this season as the diminutive rookie has 22 goals and 39 points in 61 games. It looks like Chicago really blew it when they re-acquired Brandon Saad from Columbus for Artemi Panarin. Saad has only two goals and four points in his last 20 games and has lost his time on the power play for the most part. He has 15 goals and 27 points in 61 contests thus far.

COLORADO

Games this week

vs. Vancouver, vs. Calgary, vs. Minnesota, vs. Nashville

Rested Team: vs. Vancouver (Monday), vs. Calgary (Wednesday), vs. Minnesota (Friday)

Tired Team: None

Notes

The Avalanche are home for all four games this week. Keep on eye on Tyson Jost as the center who has only seven goals and 16 points in 43 games, has come on of late with four goals and six points in his last nine including a pair of power play markers. Tyson Barrie had a five point night Tuesday all on the power play with a goal and four assists. The defenseman has six goals and 36 points in 46 games this season but has been a minus-five in his last four games. Erik Johnson is out indefinitely with an upper body injury and that has provided Andrei Mironov with another chance to play. Nathan MacKinnon has 65 points in 53 games including 22 points on the power play.

COLUMBUS

Games this week

vs. Washington, @ Los Angeles, @ Anaheim, @ San Jose

Rested Team: None

Tired Team: @ Anaheim (Friday)

Notes

The Blue Jackets head out west after a Monday home date with Washington and play three times in four nights as part of their four-game week. Look for Sergei Bobrovsky to play three times with Joonas Korpisalo getting the call once.  Nick Foligno is expected to miss another week or two as he has a lower body injury and is on the injured reserve list. Taylor Chorney was claimed off waivers from Washington. Zach Werenski has four assists in his last six games. He is tied for fourth in the NHL with 11 goals but has not found the back of the net in 22 games. Oliver Bjorkstrand is second among forwards in points with only 32. No wonder the Blue Jackets are in a struggle to make the playoffs after garnering 108 points last season, the fourth best in the NHL.

DALLAS

Games this week

vs. Calgary, vs. Tampa Bay, vs. St. Louis

Rested Team: vs. Tampa Bay (Thursday)

Tired Team: None

Notes

Kari Lehtonen had a bad season in 2016-17, forcing Dallas to bring in Ben Bishop but the Finnish goaltender has been solid this season and has actually outplayed Bishop. Lehtonen picked up his first shutout of the season Thursday and is 11-5-1 with a 2.14 GAA and a .923 save percentage.  Bishop on the other hand has struggled of late, giving up six goals on his last 22 shots in his last two losses. Tyler Seguin hit the 30-goal mark for the fourth time on Thursday. Martin Hanzal is in-and-out of the lineup with injuries. Jamie Benn is seeing some time in the middle with Hanzal out. John Klingberg and Alexander Radulov leads the Stars in points with 54, one ahead of Benn and two up on Seguin.

DETROIT

Games this week

@ St. Louis, @ Winnipeg, @ Minnesota

Rested Team: @ St. Louis (Wednesday)

Tired Team: None

Notes

Look for Mike Green and Luke Glendening to be gone by the trade deadline. Green should fetch the Red Wings some assets but Glendening is likely worth a late round pick. Detroit dealt Petr Mrazek to Philadelphia on Sunday and picked up a conditional third in 2019 and a conditional fourth this season. Jared Coreau is now the back up to Jimmy Howard but has yet to get into a game. Anthony Mantha leads the Red Wings with nine power play goals. Henrik Zetterberg (who the Red Wings should do a favor and move him out of town as he deserves to be playing in the post-season) has yet to score with the man-advantage but has 12 assists. Ten of Niklas Kronwall’s 16 points have come with the man advantage.

EDMONTON

Games this week

@ San Jose, vs. Nashville, vs. New York Rangers

Rested Team: vs. New York Rangers (Sunday)

Tired Team: None

Notes

Look for Patrick Maroon, Mark Letestu and Mike Cammalleri to get moved before the trade deadline on Monday. The Oilers made a huge mistake in trading for the slow Ryan Strome as they gave up the much speedier Jordan Eberle. The Oilers were already slow with Maroon and Milan Lucic in the lineup and the addition of Strome really has put them behind the eight-ball when facing most teams. The funny thing is that they have the fastest player in the NHL in Connor McDavid but have trouble finding anyone who can stay close to him. Look for Jesse Puljujarvi and Leon Draisaitl to be his linemates next season if no else can be found at the deadline or during the off-season.  Lucic has not lit the lamp in his last 23 games.

FLORIDA

Games this week

vs. Toronto, vs. New Jersey, vs. Buffalo, vs. Philadelphia

Rested Team: vs. Toronto (Tuesday), vs. Philadelphia (Sunday)

Tired Team: vs. Buffalo (Friday)

Notes

The Panthers play four games this week with three coming in four nights. Expect to see Roberto Luongo and James Reimer split the net. Luongo has played in three of four games since his return on February 17 and has given up six goals on 99 shots. They picked up Frank Vatrano from the Bruins and gave up a third round pick which seems like a lot for the forward. He is currently injured so his debut for Florida is unknown at this time. Radim Vrbata has been a healthy scratch the last wo games as well as seven of 10 games in February. The Panthers likely wish they did not sign him in the off-season. You have to like the core of the Panthers with Aleksander Barkov, Vincent Trocheck and Jonathan Huberdeau up front and Aaron Ekblad and Mike Matheson on the blueline.

LOS ANGELES

Games this week

vs. Vegas, @ Vegas, vs. Columbus, vs. Chicago

Rested Team:  None

Tired Team: None

Notes

The King play three games in four nights this week as part of a four-game week. Newly acquired Scott Wedgewood should get one start with Jonathan Quick picking up the other three. Los Angeles dealt Darcy Kuemper for Wedgewood and Tobias Rieder and Rieder should be a strong member on the third unit. The Kings face the Vegas Golden Knights in a home-and-home series so look for Dustin Brown who has been feistier this season to get involved if there are fisticuffs. Jeff Carter has been out of the lineup with an ankle injury since October 18 and was finally given clearance to practice on Thursday and his return could be imminent. Grab him in most leagues if available.  Dion Phaneuf has three goals on the power play in five games since his trade from Ottawa.

MINNESOTA

Games this week

vs. St. Louis, @ Arizona, @ Colorado, vs. Detroit

Rested Team: None

Tired Team: @ Colorado (Friday)

Notes

Minnesota plays four times this week including three games in four nights so expect to see Devan Dubnyk in goal a trio of times with Alex Stalock getting the call once. Nice to see Joel Eriksson Ek halt his 50 game goalless drought, scoring on Monday afternoon. Maybe he needs the Wild to play more games in the afternoon. Chris Stewart has been a healthy scratch more times than not lately but scored Thursday. It was only his ninth goal in 47 games and first since December 19. Matt Cullen could be headed back to Pittsburgh by the trade deadline. Eric Staal leads the Wild with 27 goals and 54 points. Jonas Brodin leads the Wild with a plus-19.

MONTREAL

Games this week

vs. Philadelphia, vs. New York Islanders, @ New York Islanders, @ Boston

Rested Team: None

Tired Team: @ Boston (Saturday)

Notes

The Canadiens play four games this week including three in four nights so expect to see Antti Niemi spell off Carey Price in one contest. The Habs play a home-and-home series with the Islanders and if there are any fisticuffs, look for Nicolas Deslauriers to be in the middle of the action. Shea Weber is done for the season as he needs foot surgery to repair a torn tendon. Carey Price is out indefinitely with a concussion. Look for Max Pacioretty, Tomas Plekanec and possibly Alex Galchenyuk to get lots of interest from playoff contenders at the deadline.  Jeff Petry has 10 goals and 29 points with 15 points coming on the power play but his minus-26 really hurts his fantasy value.

 NASHVILLE

 Games this week

@ Winnipeg, @ Edmonton, @ Vancouver, @ Colorado

Rested Team: None

Tired Team: @ Vancouver (Friday)

Notes

The Predators play four games on the road this week with three in four nights. Juuse Saros should get the call once with Pekka Rinne playing three times. Rinne picked up the 300th win of his NHL career Thursday. Viktor Arvidsson has four goals and five points in his last three games. Mike Fisher continues to practice and is looking to return on March 1 in Edmonton. Kyle Turris has been in a prolonged slump and finally scored for the first time in 10 games on Tuesday but was unable to pick up a point Thursday in a 7-1 win over San Jose. P.K. Subban has a couple of goals and eight points in his last 10 games to give him 48 points this season. He is the most valuable fantasy defenseman this season as he is a plus-13 and has 62 penalty minutes.

NEW JERSEY

Games this week

@ Pittsburgh, @ Florida, @ Carolina, vs. Vegas

Rested Team: None

Tired Team: None

Notes

The Devils are still in the thick of the playoff race and things get busier this week as they play three games in four nights as part of a four game week. Keith Kinkaid should get three starts with regular goalie Cory Schneider still out of the lineup while Eddie Lack will get the crease once. Schneider partook in an optional practice Wednesday but was nowhere to be seen on Thursday. Taylor Hall is on a 20-game points streak, the best in the NHL this season. He is having his best season of his career with 26 goals and 64 points in 56 games. The Devils picked up Michael Grabner from the Rangers in exchange for a second round pick and Igor Rykov. It was the first trade between the two teams since the Devils moved from Colorado in 1982.

NEW YORK ISLANDERS

Games this week

@ Montreal, vs. Montreal, @ Pittsburgh

Rested Team: None

Tired Team: @ Pittsburgh (Saturday)

Notes

The Islanders play a troika of games in four nights. Thomas Greiss is out with a lower body injury so expect to see Jaroslav Halak play twice with Christopher Gibson playing once. The Islanders play Montreal in a home-and-home series and if there is any rough stuff, Scott Mayfield is the likeliest Islander to be in the middle of things. It’s hard to believe that Nick Leddy is a minus-32 this season including a minus-nine in his last 10 games. Rookie Mathew Barzal has seven games this season in which he has recorded at least three points. That’s amazing and he should be the front-runner for the Calder Trophy. Tanner Fritz scored his first NHL goal on Monday. While there is no news on a re-signing for John Tavares, the Islanders and Josh Bailey are close on a multi-year contract.

NEW YORK RANGERS

Games this week

@ Vancouver, @ Calgary, @ Edmonton

Rested Team: None

Tired Team: @ Edmonton (Saturday)

Notes

The Rangers play three games in four nights this week, all in Western Canada. Henrik Lundqvist should get the call twice with newcomer Alexandar Georgiev likely to get one start. Lundqvist has been horrible of late as he has been pulled in four of his last 11 games and has a 4.46 GAA in that span. The Rangers sat out Michael Grabner and Rick Nash Thursday and there was plenty of trade speculation but it was only Grabner who was dealt as he is off to New Jersey for a second rounder and Igor Rykov. Rykov was a fifth round pick in 2016 but the KHLer is still at least a couple of seasons away. The Rangers sent Nick Holden to Boston for Ryan O'Gara and a third round pick. Chris Kreider is close to returning after rib re-section surgery in January.

OTTAWA

Games this week

@ Washington, @ Vegas, @ Arizona

Rested Team: @ Washington (Tuesday)

Tired Team: @ Arizona (Saturday)

Notes

The Senators are the talk of the internet as the Erik Karlsson trade rumors are in full force. The Sens are looking for a lot for the best defenseman in the world but will take less if the other team will take on the remainder of Bobby Ryan’s contract. Derick Brassard could be dealt as could Mike Hoffman as it looks like the Senators are in full rebuild mode. It’s strange considering the Senators were one goal away from the Stanley Cup Final in June as they took the Penguins to double overtime in Game 7. This season they thought they were all in when they dealt for Matt Duchene but it has been straight downhill since then. Ryan Dzingel missed a couple of games for personal reasons. Mark Stone leads the Senators with 54 points.

PHILADELPHIA

Games this week

@ Montreal, vs. Carolina, @ Tampa Bay, @ Florida

Rested Team: None

Tired Team: @ Florida (Sunday)

Notes

The Flyers play four games this week including three in four nights. They have lost both their starting goaltenders Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth to injuries that should keep them out for another month, forcing Philadelphia to trade for Petr Mrazek, formerly of the Red Wings. He should get at least a couple of starts with rookie Alex Lyon getting the remainder. Travis Konecny is out with a foot injury after blocking a shot against Montreal Tuesday. Claude Giroux has 72 points in 61 games after getting 58 last season.  Nolan Patrick has goals in each of his last three games as it appears he has acclimated himself to the NHL. The 19-year-old has eight goals and 17 points but look for plenty more next season.

PITTSBURGH

Games this week

vs. New Jersey, @ Boston, vs. New York Islanders

Rested Team: vs. New York Islanders (Saturday)

Tired Team: None

Notes

Patric Hornqvist has been skating for more than a week and finally participated in practice Thursday. He has been out since February 2 and should return before the game against New Jersey. Get him back in your lineup. Bryan Rust has been an offensive machine since he was placed on a line with Evgeni Malkin as he has 15 points in his last 13 games. He has nine goals and 31 points in 50 games. Riley Sheahan has been an offensive force so to speak as well, since being placed on a line with Phil Kessel. Sheahan has four goals and eight points in 10 games. This is the player who went his first 80 games last season without a goal before scoring twice on the last night of the season. Kris Letang has 37 points in 58 games.

ST. LOUIS

Games this week

@ Minnesota, vs. Detroit, @ Dallas

Rested Team: None

Tired Team: vs. Detroit (Wednesday)

Notes

The Blues will be buyers if anything at the deadline and Mike Hoffman’s name keeps popping up when the Blues are mentioned. Carter Hutton continues to outshine Jake Allen in goal and has started in six of the Blues last 10 games. I thought that Patrik Berglund was going to be a star in the NHL after his 52 point season at the age of 22 but that was the best of his career and has not had more than 38 ever since and that was the following year. Brayden Schenn leads the Blues with eight power play goals as well as 16 points. Alex Pietrangelo has a goal and an assist in his last 10 games. Robert Bortuzzo is on the injured reserve list with a lower body injury.

SAN JOSE

Games this week

vs. Edmonton, vs. Chicago, vs. Columbus

Rested Team: None

Tired Team: None

Notes

Tomas Hertl returned to the San Jose lineup Thursday after missing three games with an upper body injury. The Sharks responded by losing 7-1. Mikkel Boedker was red-hot before Thursday as he had seven points in four games including five goals. He was red-hot for a short time last season as well but ended up with only 10 goals and 26 points. He is at 12 and 12 this season. Chris Tierney has two goals and seven points in his last 10 games and credits his off-season workouts with Gary Roberts as well as a change in diet as a big reason for his success this season. Aaron Dell could be on the move at the deadline as he is a UFA at the end of the season. He gave up seven goals on 46 shots Thursday but he had been sensational all season until then and his GAA is only 2.00.

TAMPA BAY

Games this week

vs. Toronto, vs. Buffalo, @ Dallas, vs. Philadelphia

Rested team: None

Tired Team: @ Dallas (Thursday)

Notes

The Lightning play three games in four nights as part of their four-game week. Andrei Vasilevskiy should get the call in goal three times with Louis Domingue starting once. Erik Karlsson and Ryan McDonagh have been rumored to be headed to Tampa Ba and if they get either, their chances of winning the Stanley Cup will be greater. Nikita Kucherov hit the 80 point mark this season Thursday and has points in eight straight games. Yanni Gourde is also hot with 17 points in his last 15 games. Braydon Point is one of the unsung heroes on the Lightning and he has a six-game points streak. He also has 53 points including 24 goals in 61 games. The Lightning claimed Gabriel Dumont off waivers from Ottawa and sent Matthew Peca to the minors. Dumont was a Lightning earlier in the season before the Senators claimed him off waivers. Turnabout is fair play.

TORONTO

Games this week

@ Tampa Bay, @ Florida, @ Washington

Rested team:  None

Tired Team: @ Florida (Tuesday)

Notes

The Maple Leafs head down to Florida and then play in the only outdoor Stadium Series game this season against Washington in Annapolis, Maryland at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium Saturday evening. Auston Matthews was unable to finish the game Thursday as he has an apparent shoulder injury. There was no update Friday morning but he will have an MRI. The Maple Leafs riches in with their young talent continues as both Travis Dermott and Kasperi Kapanen look like they are in the NHL for good. Jake Gardiner is a good offensive player with four goals and 8 points but he is bad defensively. He is second in the NHL in giveaways to Brent Burns and probably leads the leagues in icing the puck. I will be very surprised if James van Riemsdyk is dealt at the break which probably means he will be. The Leafs need him for their playoff run and the asset they may receive at this time is not going to make a difference.

VANCOUVER

Games this week

@ Colorado, vs. New York Rangers, vs. Nashville

Rested Team: None

Tired Team: @ Colorado (Monday)

Notes

The Canucks are definitely sellers at this point of the season and don’t be surprised to see Thomas Vanek in another uniform by Tuesday. The Sedin twins are a different story and even though they have expiring contracts, no team can afford both players at this time. Erik Gudbranson is staying in Vancouver after inking a three-year contract extension. The Canucks want to retain defenseman Chris Tanev so teams wanting him are going to have to pay up big time. Adam Gaudette was drafted 149th overall in 2015 and he has starred in the NCAA with Northeastern over the last two seasons including his 27 goal, 51 point season in 32 games this season. He will look good in a Vancouver uniform with fellow prospects Elias Pettersson and goalie Thatcher Demko in addition to current young stars Brock Boeser and Bo Horvat. The future is looking bright for the Canucks.

Notes

The Golden Knights play a home-and-home series with the Kings this week and expect the Kings to try and push around the Knights in anticipation of playing them in the post-season. Should that be the case Brayden McNabb should add to his penalty minute count. I’m not sure who the Golden Knights are interested in as they have good goaltending, a lot of depth on the blueline and forwards they like. Despite what people may think, they do not have a lot of prospects as they have had only one draft under their belts. They have extra picks in 2019 in the second and third rounds as well as second rounders in 2020 but that may get you a bottom six player. Reilly Smith has eight goals and 17 points in his last 12 games.

WASHINGTON

Games this week

@ Columbus, vs. Ottawa, vs. Toronto

Rested team: None

Tired Team: vs. Ottawa (Tuesday)

Notes

The Capitals play Toronto in an outdoor game at Annapolis, Maryland, home of the Navy on Saturday night. The Capitals picked up some depth on their blueline with the acquisition of rookie defenseman Jakub Jerabek from Montreal in exchange for a 2019 fifth round pick as well as Michal Kempny from Chicago for a 2018 third round pick. Everyone is picking on Carey Price for his poor season but Braden Holtby has a 2.95 GAA with a .909 save percentage. Thank goodness the Capitals are winning as he is 28-13-4 but if he had the same record as Price, there would be an uproar in Washington. Alex Ovechkin has 36 goals and 68 points and is one point behind his season total of last year and only three in arrears of 2015-16. He still has 21 games to play.

WINNIPEG

Notes

Steve Mason no longer has concussion problems but won’t be in the lineup so quickly. Michael Hutchinson also had a concussion but will back up Connor Hellebuyck Friday which allows Eric Comrie to go back to the minors. Patrik Laine has a goal and an assist in each of his last three games to give him 28 goals and 48 points in 60 games. Dustin Byfuglien was having a poor season until recently but his two goals and 11 points in his last 10 games give him 30 points in 48 tilts. Jacob Trouba should be back in mid-March from his lower body injury. Adan Lowry could be back this week from an upper body injury suffered on February 1. The Jets could be interested in Mike Hoffman and have plenty of prospects the Senators would be interested in.
