Kareem Hunt's turn to star as Chiefs wallop Bengals in another offensive showcase

There was no “Sunday Night Football” hangover for the Kansas City Chiefs after last week’s shootout loss to the New England Patriots.

The Chiefs walloped the Cincinnati Bengals, 45-10 Sunday in their second straight prime-time showcase that gave America another look at their phenomenal offense.

Kareem Hunt scores early, often

The Chiefs scored early and often, jumpstarted by Pro Bowl running back Kareem Hunt, who logged the first two touchdowns of the game.

Hunt set up the first score, juking, jumping and dragging hapless Bengals defenders on a 21-yard run-of-the-year candidate that preceded his touchdown reception from Patrick Mahomes on the next play.

His second touchdown of the game on another pass from Mahomes put the the Chiefs up 14-0 and signaled the alarm that this one might be a laugher.

It was.

Chiefs playmakers make plays

Hunt, of course, wasn’t the only Chiefs player making waves on Sunday.

But he was the No. 1 option. He tallied an efficient 86 yards on 15 carries while adding five receptions for 55 yards and totaling three touchdowns.

When not eyeing Hunt, Mahomes spread the ball around to Kansas City’s remarkable stable of playmakers for the team’s third 40-plus point performance of the season.

The Kansas City quarterback tallied 358 passing yards with four touchdowns and an interception in another performance that hammered home that nobody has come close to figuring him out. He added 45 yards on the ground for good measure.

Meanwhile, Travice Kelce made five catches for 95 yards while Tyreek Hill tallied 68 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions, being held in relative check.

Kansas City defense makes an appearance

After giving up 43 points to Tom Brady’s Patriots last week, Kansas City’s defense came to play against Cincinnati. The Chiefs outgained the Bengals in total offense 551 yards to 239 yards.

A.J. Green got his with 117 yards on seven catches. But no other Bengals receiver managed more than 30 yards while Joe Mixon was bottled up for 50 yards on 13 carries. Andy Dalton managed 151 passing yards while completing 15-of-29 pass attempts that included a touchdown and an interception returned for a touchdown by Ron Parker.

With the win, the Chiefs improve to 6-1 and remain a game ahead of the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC West. The Bengals fall to 4-3, but remain firmly in the hunt of a middling AFC North led by the 3-2-1 Pittsburgh Steelers.
