Kansas State hires OU offensive analyst Matt Wells as co-offensive coordinator

Jan. 4—Kansas State announced the hiring of Oklahoma offensive analyst Matt Wells on Thursday, bringing on the former head coach as a co-offensive coordinator.

Wells joined Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables' staff in 2022. He'll serve under new offensive coordinator Conor Riley and head coach Chris Klieman.

Wells was also named the quarterbacks coach and an associate head coach. He coached former Utah State quarterback and current Green Bay Packer Jordan Love during his final season with the program.

At 50-years old, Wells has been coaching at the collegiate level for 26 years. He spent three seasons as the head coach at Texas Tech and led Utah State for six seasons from 2013-18.

During those six seasons, the Aggies went to four bowl games and had two, 10-win seasons. In 2018, the Aggies ranked third in the FBS in scoring offense and were ranked 22nd in the final AP Poll.

Former Kansas State offensive coordinator Collin Klein left the program before the bowl game for the same role at Texas A&M.
