KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Current have signed a third member of Brazil’s 2023 World Cup team to their roster.
The Current announced Monday that forward Beatriz Zaneratto João, simply known as Bia, has signed with the team through the 2024 season with a club option for 2025.
“Bia is an extraordinary talent that will impact our team immediately,” Current general manager Camille Ashton said. “We are excited to welcome her to Kansas City.”
The Brazilian has represented her country in the last four World Cup tournaments and two Olympics (2016 and 2020).
Appearing in over 100 matches for Brazil, she’s recorded 69 starts and 36 goals.
“Bia’s goal scoring ability, creativity in and around the box are extraordinary,” Current head coach Vlatko Andonovski said. “She is a world-class forward, proven in club and country.”
Bia began her pro career at 13 when she started playing for Brazilian club Ferroviária. She’s also played over 100 matches for the South Korean club Incheon and nine matches in the Chinese Women’s Super League before she returned to Brazil with Palmeiras.
The Current are set to start preseason training soon, training in Kansas City this week before heading to California and Florida for more training in warmer weather.
