The reserve/COVID-19 list is used both for players who have tested positive for the coronavirus themselves or if they have been exposed to someone who has.
Sherman latest Chiefs player placed on reserve/COVID-19 list
Sherman is in his eighth season with the Chiefs, and has one reception so far this season — an underhanded toss from Patrick Mahomes which he took five yards for a touchdown in their win against the Baltimore Ravens last month.
Sherman, 31, is the latest in the league to land on the list in recent weeks and at least the second Chiefs player to do so since the season started, joining practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta’amu. A Kansas City strength and conditioning coach reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus on Saturday, which prompted the team to start contact tracing. It’s unclear if Sherman’s exposure to the virus is related.
The team also played New England in Week 4 amid a minor outbreak within the Patriots organization. New England has placed two players on that list in the days following that matchup and sent quarterback Cam Newton to the list just before the game.
Sherman has taken 33 offensive snaps and 98 special teams snaps so far this season. It’s unknown when he will be activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list.
