Juwan Howard reportedly not interested in NBA head coaching vacancies originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

Now that the Trail Blazers are preparing to ask permission to interview seven to eight coaching candidates, the reports continue to come out about potential successors to Terry Stotts.

While Chauncey Billups remains a top name for both Portland and Boston’s head coaching vacancies, another former player's name has been floated: Juwan Howard

However, we shouldn't expect two-time NBA champion to leave his college coaching ranks.

It was in 2019 that Howard was hired as head coach at Michigan. He had served as an assistant coach for the Miami Heat from 2013-2019.

Howard earned AP Coach of the Year in 2021 after guiding Michigan to a 23-5 season and a No. 1 seed in the 2021 NCAA tournament before being upset by No. 11 seeded UCLA in the Elite Eight.

With Howard reportedly off the table, the Trail Blazers are currently in the process of narrowing the scope of candidates and have begun the process of requesting permission from current employers to conduct initial interviews.

There is currently no timetable for the Blazers on the hiring of their new head coach.
