NBC Sports Washington's play-by-play commentator, Justin Kutcher, has spent an immense time with the team since joining the broadcast this season. Whether traveling with the guys on strenuous road trips or getting an up-close look at practices, Kutcher has seen this team in just about every form.
"John [Wall] looks awesome," Kutcher said. "If he stays along this path, he'll be the comeback player of the year next year, and I think he'll be an all-star."
Wall captured five straight all-star nods between 2013-2018, before tearing his achilles last season. The Comeback Player of the Year Award, later renamed Most Improved Player, hasn't been awarded to a D.C. player since Gheorghe Muresan captured it during his time with the Washington Bullets in 1996.
"All of a sudden I saw him jumping for jump shots, then he's running up-and-backs as fast, if not faster, than he's ever run before," Kutcher continued.
On the topic of Wall possibly returning with about a month or so remaining in the season, Kutcher said: "I don't see the upside to doing it."
"You let him take his time, get that competitive fire going, use the offseason to get in great shape and come back next year with a chip on his shoulder."
