Jury finds man guilty in 2021 murder of Lateisha Burnett after fight at pub

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A jury on Friday found Kenneth Dogan guilty in the murder of 28-year-old Lateisha Burnett in April 2021.

Prosecutors had alleged that Dogan got into an altercation with some of Burnett’s friends at Cheers Pub in Roseland, then drove to and fired shots into a house where she she happened to be on West Dunham Street.

The jury also found Dogan, 42, guilty of criminal recklessness, a felony, and invasion of privacy, a misdemeanor, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office. But the jury found him not guilty of two counts of attempted murder and voluntary manslaughter.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 15 before Judge Elizabeth Hurley.

Court documents from last year had said that Dogan’s ex-girlfriend was celebrating her birthday at Cheers. Dogan allegedly learned about it and came to the party, and as he "became aggressive" with his ex-girlfriend, her cousin attempted to defend her and Dogan hit the man in the head with a glass bottle.

Police came to the pub, and the parties left. Dogan's ex-girlfriend and a few of her friends, including Burnett, then drove to Dunham Street to continue celebrating.
