Junior hockey: WarHawks' late goal beats Blizzard

Feb. 7—ALEXANDRIA — Gus Cantwell's goal at 13:10 of the third period helped lift the Willmar WarHawks to a 4-3 NA3HL victory over the Alexandria Blizzard on Wednesday at the Runestone Community Center.

Cantwell, a forward from St. Paul, scored his 11th goal of the season off assists from Caleb Crouch and Nathan Hinze.

Willmar took a 2-1 lead after getting first-period goals from Luke McCarthy and Shane Dean.

The teams were tied through two periods. Willmar got a goal from Dome Szabo and Alexandria got scores from Chris Fotopoulos and Matt Scribner.

Kai Girard made 34 saves in net for the WarHawks. The goaltender is from Chaska.

Willmar's next game is at 7:10 p.m. Thursday at Mason City, Iowa, where the WarHawks play the Toros.
