Junior hockey: Granite City bests Willmar WarHawks in home-and-home opener

Jan. 12—WILLMAR — Tied 1-1 with the Willmar WarHawks, the Granite City Lumberjacks got on the roll.

The Lumberjacks scored five straight goals to pull away with an 8-2 victory Friday at the Willmar Civic Center Arena.

Granite City sits in third in the NA3HL West Division standings with 48 points. It trails Rochester's 52 and Alexandria's 50. Willmar is in fifth with 22 points.

Joe Greniuk and Jack Marske each had two goals for the Lumberjacks. Tj Lepisto finished with a goal and two assists.

Tyler Misialek and Nik Johnson both had a goal and an assist for Willmar. Misialek is a forward from West Fargo, North Dakota, and Johnson is a forward from Minneapolis. Zane Irion, a forward from Rio Rancho, Alaska, finished with two assists.

Willmar and Granite City conclude their two-game series at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Sports Arena East in Sauk Rapids.
