Jumpers split doubleheader

Mar. 25—After a solid win against Corbin on Friday, Somerset was set to take on Estill County and South Warren in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Jumpers managed to split that set of games.

In a tight one against the Engineers of Estill County, Somerset overcame an early deficit to take home a 5-3 victory. Griffin Loy was on fire during the game, earning four RBI's on three hits. The lone other RBI was batted in by Connor Vanderploeg. Blake Abbott, Caynon Sizemore, Kole Grundy, Connor Roberts and Isaiah Lewis all each had at least one hit during the ball game. Lewis pitched the first five innings, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Roberts earned the win, pitching the final two innings and allowing just one earned run on one hit with one walk and two strikeouts.

In game two against the South Warren Spartans, the Jumpers battled despite being down 7-0 after the first inning but came up just short as they fell by a final score of 12-9. Grundy led the way with three RBI's on two hits, with Sizemore adding two RBI's. Abbott, Roberts and Bryson Stevens each added one RBI apiece, with Abbott's coming on a solo home run. South Warren was led by freshman Camden Page and his four RBI's.

Somerset's record now sits at 6-3 for the season and they will be back at home on Tuesday as they host Danville in the 12th Region All "A" Classic at 6 p.m.
