A.J. Brown was lying down next to his daughter when he got the news. He was “star-struck” looking at his phone.

Brown, the Titans Pro Bowl receiver, said he was so excited that Julio Jones was going to be his teammate that he jumped out of bed.

“I was like, ‘Is this really real?’ " Brown said. “I kind of woke my daughter up, and so I had to calm down for a lil' minute just so I could get my phone.”

Brown and quarterback Ryan Tannehill spoke to reporters Sunday evening at a Volunteers of America event, just hours after the Titans made the deal for the Falcons star wide receiver.

The Titans received Jones and a 2023 sixth-round pick in the trade and sent a 2022 second-round selection and a 2023 fourth-rounder to Atlanta in the deal, which is pending a physical.

WR Julio Jones (11) averaged nearly 1,300 receiving yards per season in 10 years with the Atlanta Falcons.

After losing wide receiver Corey Davis and tight end Jonnu Smith in free agency, the Titans received a massive boost to their offense with the addition of 32-year-old Jones, arguably the best receiver of his generation. He gives an already high-powered offense more firepower, and arguably lifts the Titans into Super Bowl contention status.

Jones arrived in Nashville Monday morning.

“I think this is really huge for Tennessee,” Brown told reporters. “Not just for me, but this is huge for the city, our team. Glad to have him.

“The city right now is electric. They’re pumped for a guy like Julio Jones on the team. I think the team loves him. We got guys reaching out. I never seen that. I think everybody is real pleased with him.”

“How could you not be excited to play with a guy from the caliber of talent that Julio is and has been for his whole career?” Tannehill added. “Excited to get to know him as a person and just welcome him to the team and get him acclimated to the way we do things.”

BIG DEAL: Falcons agree to trade Julio Jones to Tennessee Titans

Brown, whose persistent recruiting efforts of Jones gained acclaim on social media, has long looked at the eventual Hall of Famer as an idol.

Brown and Jones give the Titans arguably the best wide-receiver tandem in the NFL, offering a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.

“All the way up until college, he was my favorite receiver,” Brown said of Jones. “Someone I looked up to. Just having someone in the locker room now that I can just go ask him, ‘what do I need to do here? When do I need to do this?’ It’s great. We talk all the time anyway, but just having someone that close to you and you see it on the field first-hand for yourself, it’s great.”

Tannehill said he’s looking forward to hitting the field with Jones.

“Obviously, a lot of work in front of us," said Tannehill. "Going to have to feel each other out and getting on the same page. But looking forward to the work and looking forward to the good things to come.”
