JUCO cross-country: Ewing named regional coach of the year

Oct. 30—CRESTON — Indian Hills men's cross-country head coach Brent Ewing has been named the 2023 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Division I Coach of the Year, announced following Friday night's region championship meet at the Crestmoor Golf Club.

Ewing led the Warriors to its most impressive finish in school history at the Region championship, scoring a program-low 43 points while collecting five NJCAA All-Region XI individual honors, including two first-team selections. As a team, the Warriors placed third overall in the tightest finish in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) history.

The Warriors reached new heights under Ewing throughout the 2023 campaign. Indian Hills saw three program records fall by freshman Brandon Ford who set the new six and eight-kilometer records as well as the top time at Cedar Creek Golf Course during the IHCC Invitational meet.

Indian Hills set a new program record for highest national rank, checking in at No. 7 in multiple weeks in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I men's cross-country poll. The Warriors will now set their sights on the upcoming men's cross-country championship on Nov. 11 at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama.
