JUCO basketball: No. 14 IHCC pulls away from Kankakee

Jan. 25—KANKAKEE, Ill. — The 14th-ranked Indian Hills men's basketball team surged past Kankakee Community College on Wednesday night with an 84-73 victory on the road. The Warriors move to 15-4 overall on the year after winning its third consecutive game.

The win saw sophomore Trevion LaBeaux reach the 500-point milestone for his career after scoring 16 points for the Warriors. LaBeaux has now scored in double-digits in each of the team's last three contests, averaging 20 points per game during the stretch.

Sophomore David Hermes powered the offense with a career-high 17 points on the night, including a pair of timely three-point shots. Sophomore Braden Sparks added 16 points in the win for the Warriors.

Sparks and LaBeaux combined to score 25 points over the final 20 minutes of play as the Warriors broke free from a slim 39-38 advantage at halftime. As a team, the Warriors outscored the Cavaliers 45-35 in the second half to pick up a win over the streaking Cavaliers. Kankakee had previously won six consecutive contests, including a 16-point win over nationally-ranked Trion College on Jan. 17.

Wednesday night's affair marked the end of a four-game road trip. The 14th-ranked Warriors returns to the Hellyer Student Life Center on Saturday night to face Carl Sandburg College at 7 p.m.
