Josh Heupel is one of the most innovative offensive minds in football.

He was hired as Tennessee’s head coach on Jan. 27. Heupel served as UCF’s head coach from 2018-20, compiling a 28-8 record.

Before becoming a head coach, Heupel served as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oklahoma, Utah State and Missouri, and a tight ends coach at Arizona.

He played quarterback collegiately at Weber State, Snow College and Oklahoma, coming from Central High School in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Heupel played for Steve Svendsen at Central High School. Svendsen served on the University of Houston’s staff from 1988-92. The Cougars ran a run and shoot offense that produced quarterbacks Andre Ware and David Klingler. Ware won the Heisman Trophy in 1989.

Heupel was a quarterback for head coaches Dave Arslanian (Weber State) and Keith Uperesa (Snow College), playing in offenses that featured West Coast principles. He was then recruited to play at Oklahoma in Mike Leach’s Air Raid offense.

“Josh Heupel’s Offense” focuses on Heupel’s playing and coaching career. Former players and coaches at Central High School, Weber State, Snow College, Oklahoma, Arizona, Utah State, Missouri and UCF detail their time with Heupel and the offenses he played in and has coached.

“Josh Heupel’s Offense” is available on Apple and Barnes & Noble, detailing his time playing in the run and shoot, West Coast and Air Raid offenses, while studying and implementing veer and shoot principles as a coach.
