José María Olazábal nearly sinks incredible shot on No. 16 at Augusta National
The tradition unlike any other has provided another one.
During Monday’s practice round at Augusta National in advance of this week’s Masters Tournament, players have taken up the ritual of trying to skip a shot across the pond on the 170-yard par-3 16th hole, and two-time winner of the green jacket José María Olazábal nearly punched his in the hole.

That’s downright unfair for those of us who hit so many shots into the water without ever seeing them emerge. Olazábal’s shot skipped six times before rolling onto the green and within two feet of the cup.
It’s hard to imagine a better shot at No. 16 than Tiger Woods’ final-round chip-in for birdie on his way to the 2005 Masters title, but Olazábal would have given him a run had he holed it across the pond.
Here’s a few more impressive attempts during Monday’s practice round:

Now, if only somebody tried this during the tournament, Jim Nantz might just lose his mind.
