Things got tense on Friday in Game 3 between the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers. Mavericks guard Luka Doncic and Clippers center Montrezl Harrell got into a verbal sparring match early in the game, and Harrell appeared to call Doncic a “b---- a-- white boy” after scoring a bucket. The comment drew extra attention considering the emphasis on race relations inside the NBA bubble.
Tiger Woods found himself 21 shots off the lead entering the final round of The Northern Trust, but that didn't mean he was ready to pack it in and move on to the BMW Championship next week. No, no, no ... Woods needed a good finish to help his chances of getting back to East Lake and he wasted no time Sunday in doing so. A perfect drive and a dart at the first set up Woods for his first birdie of the day after narrowly missing out on one Saturday.
Bayern Munich are champions of Europe after beating Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Lisbon. Bayern won all of their group games before knocking out Chelsea, Barcelona and Lyon, scoring 42 goals along the way led by Robert Lewandowski's haul of 15. But it was Kingsley Coman who was ther hero tonight heading in a Joshua Kimmich cross in the second-half to seal a deserved victory and a sixth European Cup.
After Friday's practice, when the Patriots were without Jarrett Stidham during team drills, there was a chance the second-year quarterback would get right back on the horse Sunday after a day off. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels thought Stidham would be "ready to roll." Stidham did not roll on Sunday, though.
The San Francisco Giants are parting ways with a fan favorite Sunday. After making a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, the Giants designated veteran Hunter Pence for assignment. Pence, 37, will be placed on waivers following the move.
The first female ever to win a major at Troon, the first German of either gender ever to win a major on British soil. The historic achievements piled high for Sophia Popov on Sunday as she emphatically belied her standing as a golfer without any playing privileges on a main tour with a commanding victory here at the AIG Women's Open. Afterwards, Popov revealed that her inability to break through almost caused her to retire from the sport last year.

Imagine being able to walk around with two of golf's best for what felt like a casual round of golf. In their case, it also looked like a casual round. Woods used his putter to go over a steep slope from behind the 18th green, and he made a 6-footer coming back to end with a birdie.
Kingsley Coman headed Bayern Munich to a sixth Champions League title on Sunday, scoring against boyhood club Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 1-0 victory in the first final to be played without fans. While Bayern won its first final since 2013, PSG has yet to lift the European Cup despite more than $1 billion being spent on players in nine years. More than $500 million was spent on Neymar, Kylian Mbappé and Angel Di Maria but PSG looked far from formidable or threatening against the Bavarian giants who felt more assured on European club football's biggest stage.
Tyson Fury has responded to Floyd Mayweather after the American offered to train his compatriot Deontay Wilder ahead of Fury vs Wilder part III. Mayweather, who has recently announced plans to become “one of the best trainers in the world”, was speaking at a Q&A session on his UK tour when he offered to help Wilder prepare for the third and final fight in the trilogy. “If I train [Wilder] I can teach him how to win,” Mayweather said.
More rumors began circulating on Friday that Lonzo Ball may be included in trade talks this off-season after Jay Williams reported as such on his radio show. I'm hearing things around New Orleans that Lonzo may be used as a trading asset in New Orleans…, Jay Williams of ESPN. For a variety of reasons, Ball will likely not be traded.
Those numbers bothered the Portland Trail Blazers almost as much as 116-108 after their Game 3 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers Saturday night, putting Portland behind 2-1 in the series. That top number is the free throw disparity in Game 3: The Lakers took 43, Portland just 19. Los Angeles took a dozen more free throw attempts in the first half (31) than Portland got all game.
It seemed appropriate on a day when two fellow competitors at the Northern Trust shot scores uncomfortably close to his age that Phil Mickelson announced his plan to debut on the PGA Tour Champions. Scottie Scheffler's Friday-morning 59 briefly appeared like it wouldn't even be low round of the day until Dustin Johnson flatlined his way to a 60 in the afternoon. Like Roger Bannister's 4-minute-mile, the '60' barrier seems to fall now with the frequency of a one-legged drunk on an ice rink, and those low rounds by Scheffler and Johnson might have reminded Mickelson that the days when he can hang with that kind of firepower are fewer and farther between.
With the new regime in Washington, led by head coach Ron Rivera, the goal going forward was to rebrand the franchise and create a winning culture going forward. Through five training camp practices, the difference is already palpable, according to veteran running back Adrian Peterson, who says that it's 'night and day' from what he saw with the team last year. As one of the older players in the NFL, AP knows what it's like to go through camp with a coaching staff who may be on the way out, and he definitely knows what it's like to be playing with a team who has a goal in mind and is on it's way to accomplishing that.
Jaylen Brown had a nice game as well, contributing 16 points. Boston's win marked the first-ever sweep in a series between the two teams. The C's await the winner of the Raptors-Nets series in the next round, with Toronto looking to complete their own sweep on Sunday night.
The Cincinnati Bengals hope they have something special over the long-run with the tandem of Joe Burrow and Tee Higgins. Higgins finally returned to live-action Sunday after battling a small hamstring issue and immediately came away with an important takeaway — Burrow slings the rock with some serious power. Here's his quick comment on the matter, per ESPN's Ben Baby: “The first time he threw a ball, it was a bullet.
Back-to-back early playoff exits were enough to make the Washington Capitals realize they made a mistake. In the two years since promoting top assistant Todd Reirden instead of giving Stanley Cup-winning coach Barry Trotz a raise, they've been knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. On Sunday, the team fired Reirden days after losing a five-game series to Trotz's New York Islanders and moved toward hiring the seventh coach since Alex Ovechkin entered the NHL.
The Bellator MMA cage was at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. on Friday for Bellator 244: Bader vs. Nemkov, headlined by the light heavyweight title fight between dual-division champion Ryan Bader and Vadim Nemkov.
