Jonah Jackson downgraded to doubtful, Detroit Lions 'all hands on deck' on OL

It's looking more and more like the Detroit Lions will be without their entire starting interior offensive line for Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders.

The Lions downgraded left guard Jonah Jackson to doubtful on Saturday, making it likely he will miss the game along with center Frank Ragnow and right guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai.

Detroit Lions offensive line, including left tackle Taylor Decker (68) and left guard Jonah Jackson (73), lines up against the Philadelphia Eagles during the first half at Ford Field, Sept. 11, 2022.

Vaitai is out indefinitely after undergoing back surgery last week, while the Lions ruled out Ragnow on Friday because of a toe injury. Jackson injured his right ring finger in practice Wednesday and sat out the next two days with a splint on the digit.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said the team still was sorting through its replacement options on Friday. Evan Brown will start at center in Ragnow's place, and Logan Stenberg is in line to make his second straight start at right guard.

The Lions could use practice squad lineman Dan Skipper, who was elevated from the practice squad to the gameday roster, or one of two relatively new additions, Drew Forbes or Kayode Awosika, at the other guard spot.

"We’re kind of all hands on deck right now," Campbell said.

Along with Skipper, the Lions elevated linebacker Anthony Pittman from the practice squad to the gameday roster, for the second straight week.

Running back D'Andre Swift (ankle), cornerback Amani Oruwariye (back) and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (hamstring) remain questionable to play Sunday for the Lions.

Briefly

Lions safety Tracy Walker was fined $11,139 for unnecessary roughness for his penalty in last week's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Walker picked up two personal fouls on the same play, one for hitting quarterback Jalen Hurts after he slid to the ground and the second for shoving Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert in his face as he rushed to Hurts' defense. Alex Anzalone, who also was flagged for a late hit in the game, was not fined.
