Joey Votto, Johnny Bench congratulate Tigers' Miguel Cabrera on 3,000th hit of MLB career
Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto and National Baseball Hall of Famer and former Big Red Machine great Johnny Bench were among those to congratulate the Detroit Tigers' Miguel Cabrera on his 3,000th career hit Saturday afternoon against the Colorado Rockies.
Cabrera, the 33rd member of the 3,000-hit club, drove a single the opposite way in his first plate appearance of the Rockies-Tigers game in Detroit. In the bottom of the 6th, he added a single to center that drove in two runs.
From Votto and Bench via Twitter:
Hitting the ball the other way for no. 3000. It’s what makes you special. Congratulations @MiguelCabrera 👏🏼

Earlier in the week, Votto had tweeted at Cabrera, wishing him good luck with his final steps to 3,000 and adding that Cabrera is a "joy to watch":
@MiguelCabrera I used to low-key creep your at-bats in my hotel room EVERY SINGLE NIGHT, after our games. I knew I had to study the best to beat the best. Good luck with your final steps to 3000. You are a joy to watch.

Cabrera is 3-for-27 against the Reds over the past two seasons, but in 2006 (with the Marlins) he was 13-for-22 against Cincinnati.
On Friday, Votto "Hulked out" to celebrate 100,000 Instagram followers.
