Joel Embiid wins Conference award after dominant week originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

Joel Embiid played on back-to-back nights over the weekend for the first time this season. Not coincidentally, he was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

The big man cemented his spot in the MVP race with a dominant week. He had 42 points and ten rebounds in a 117-109 win over the Celtics last Wednesday; 38 points and 11 rebounds in a 122-110 over Boston Frida;  and 33 points and 10 boards in a 114-110 win in Detroit on Saturday.

He’s the first 76ers player to post three straight games with at least 33 points and 10 rebounds since Wilt Chamberlain in December of 1967.

Embiid is listed as questionable for Monday’s game against the Pistons in Detroit with back tightness.

This is the fifth time Embiid has won a Player of the Week award in his career. Only Allen Iverson (20 times) and Charles Barkley (six) have won the award more as a 76ers player.
