Joel Embiid out for Sixers vs. Wizards due to non-COVID illness

The Philadelphia 76ers will be looking for a third consecutive win to end the road trip when they take on the Washington Wizards on Monday night and they will have to do so without the services of their superstar big man.

Joel Embiid, who was instrumental in their win over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, will miss the contest with the Wizards due to a non-COVID illness. This will be the second game Embiid will miss on the 4-game road trip after he missed a game due to right knee injury recovery.

Without Embiid, the Sixers will likely go small with PJ Tucker playing center and De’Anthony Melton moving into the starting lineup. That has been the way coach Doc Rivers has been playing it when the big fella is out.

The Sixers and the Wizards will tipoff from Capital One Arena at 7 p.m. EDT before these two teams square off again on Wednesday in Philadelphia.
