It is not a secret to anybody who watches the Cleveland Browns that their defense has been putrid in 2022. More specifically, their run defense has been the worst in the league, falling dead last in DVOA according to Football Outsiders. This showed up as they consistently get bullied on the ground, and most recently by the Miami Dolphins.
Just how bad have they been, however? The OBR’s Cody Suek did a little research and found there has not been a worse defense against the run than this 2022 Browns team in the last decade in Expected Points Added allowed per rush.
At this point, it feels certain that Woods will not return as defensive coordinator in Cleveland. Most of the defensive front will need to be overhauled as well from this historically atrocious defense.
Went all the way back to 2010. No defense has allowed more EPA per rush thru 10 weeks of a season than the 2022 #Browns at 0.139.
