Tannenbaum: Jimmy G trade should be 'no brainer' for Browns originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

The Cleveland Browns trading for Jimmy Garoppolo should be explored, longtime NFL executive Mike Tannenbaum says.

Tannenbaum, currently an analyst for ESPN, believes that the Browns should be reaching out to San Francisco about Garoppolo and asking what they want in return.

"I'm calling and I'm not hanging up without a deal," Tannenbaum said on Friday's episode of "Get Up," after being asked what Cleveland should do. "This is an absolute no-brainer."

Tannenbaum noted that Garoppolo's success in recent years, which includes a Super Bowl appearance as well as a trip to last year's NFC Championship game, is a reason why the Browns should target him.

From the 49ers side of things, Tannenbaum believes it's an easy call for San Francisco too as it gets Garoppolo out of the conference.

A hypothetical trade to Cleveland also benefits Garoppolo because if he performs well, he could set himself up for a large payday in 2023, when he is slated to be a free agent.

"There's no better place than the Browns right now," Tannenbaum concluded.

With Deshaun Watson suspended for the first 11 games of the 2022 NFL season, Cleveland is looking for a viable short-term option. For the moment, they are planning to move forward with Jacoby Brissett as the starter.

Garoppolo has been rumored to be a target of the Browns since Watson's punishment was announced and the veteran quarterback fills the need that Cleveland has.

Regardless of how this saga plays out, through a trade or release, both Garoppolo and the 49ers will be glad to be past it.
