Jimmy Butler (Miami Heat) with a buzzer beater vs the Milwaukee Bucks, 09/06/2020
Making sense of it: Teams will often release a veteran and keep the developmental player for now, and a few days later, they do the switcheroo. They do this often. They did it with Kyle Wilber and Josh Mauro last season, signing both back a few days after the waiver period and placing Isaiah Johnson and Nathan Peterman on IR with designation to return.
The wake of the wave of waives has now subsided, and the Dallas Cowboys are going to have to release a player from their newly formed 53-man roster. There's a reason why we title it “initial” instead of “final” because the regular season roster remains a fluid collection that changes based on a myriad of factors. Players who were waived or released yesterday are available to be signed or claimed by any of the other 32 teams, and the Cowboys made a move to secure someone discarded by another team, and also lost one player they may have been planning to bring back to their practice squad.
Serena Williams battled into the US Open last 16 Saturday as the tournament endured fresh controversy after New York health officials ordered the women's top doubles pairing be withdrawn over coronavirus restrictions. Williams, chasing a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title, came from a set down to oust 2017 champion Sloane Stephens 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, in what she called an "intense" encounter on Arthur Ashe Stadium. With spectators barred from this year's Flushing Meadows event due to the pandemic, second and fourth seeds Sofia Kenin and Naomi Osaka took advantage of suites they have been assigned to check out the competition.
Novak Djokovic was sensationally defaulted from the US Open after hitting a linesperson with the ball during his fourth-round match against Pablo Carreno Busta. World number one Djokovic was the clear favourite to win the grand slam at Flushing Meadows but remarkably exited the tournament on Sunday. After dropping serve to fall 6-5 behind in the first set, Djokovic fired a ball behind him and hit the linesperson.

Novak Djokovic was kicked out of the U.S. Open for accidentally hitting a line judge in the throat with a tennis ball after dropping a game in his fourth-round match Sunday, a stunning end to his 29-match winning streak and bid for an 18th Grand Slam title. As he walked to the Arthur Ashe Stadium sideline for a changeover, trailing Pablo Carreno Busta 6-5 in the first set, Djokovic - who was seeded and ranked No. 1 and an overwhelming favorite for the championship - angrily smacked a ball behind him. The ball flew right at the line judge, who dropped to her knees at the back of the court and reached for her neck.
Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper was ejected for arguing with first base umpire Roberto Ortiz over a fair-foul call Saturday night in a game against the New York Mets. Phillies second baseman Neil Walker tried to restrain Harper, and Ortiz warned Philadelphia's $330 million slugger multiple times to stop before signaling his ejection. Walker and first base coach Paco Figueroa tried to hold Harper back, and manager Joe Girardi also came out to help usher Harper off the field.
For the first time in his NFL career, Josh Rosen experienced something this weekend. After being traded by the Arizona Cardinals and then later released by the Miami Dolphins, Rosen finally had a chance this weekend to pick his own future. According to reports, there were a handful of teams interested in his services, but Rosen decided to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, rejoining offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, who he worked with in Arizona and will likely listen to.
Every year, the running back position is not only considered important but also volatile and thin. Being able to snag a top-flight workhorse back is great, but it does come with its negative aspects, too. The first round of 2020 Yahoo fantasy football 12-team drafts has a whopping total of eight running backs being selected, according to ADP, so at which point in the round should you consider pivoting to a wide receiver instead of a RB?
The theory that NFL teams would go with three quarterbacks to start the pandemic-impacted season took a hit Saturday. Perhaps most noteworthy was Miami releasing Josh Rosen, a first-round selection by Arizona in 2018 who was dealt to the Dolphins last year after the Cardinals took Kyler Murray with the top overall selection. Rosen was behind veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick and first-rounder Tua Tagovailoa on the depth chart.

Antetokounmpo was driving to the basket with 10:18 left in the second quarter, trying to get past Miami's Andre Iguodala. He went down and screamed in pain as he grabbed at the ankle, and it didn't take long for most of those on the Bucks' bench to gather around him in concern.
