Jimmies women's basketball gets 74-55 win over Mount Marty

Jan. 29—YANKTON, S.D. — The University of Jamestown women's basketball went into the half up 33-18 and that was enough to see them get a 74-55 win over Mount Marty University on Monday, Jan. 29, at the Lancers' Laddie E. Cimpl Arena.

After the teams were tied at five early in the first, the Jimmies (12-8, 8-6) outscored the Lancers 10-2 over the remainder of the first quarter to take a 15-7 lead into the second. Early into the second, the Lancers (5-15, 1-13) were able to cut their deficit to 15-12 before the Jimmies responded pushing their lead out to as large as 15 points at 33-18 on a Sarah Lenz three with 1:26 to go in the opening half.

The Jimmies would turn to Lenz for another triple to push their lead out to 19 points at 42-23 with 6:48 to go in the third quarter. The Jimmies lead would continue to hover around there until there was 6:14 to go in the fourth quarter when Hannah Hagel hit a layup to push the lead out to 65-44. The Jimmies' largest lead of the day came less than a minute later when Kia Tower hit two free throws to give her team a 23-point lead at 67-44.

The Jimmies dominated the offensive glass in this one as they outrebounded the 36-26 in total and 14-6 on the offensive side of the ball.

"It was huge," Jimmies head coach Thad Sankey said. "We almost had double figures in the first half. That was a big deal and that was something that we wanted to focus and do a better job of. Especially, when we're taking longer shots but there are plenty of times when Audrey is getting clean looks and we can be executing our rebounding schemes a little bit better. So, I liked our aggressiveness. I thought Jailyn Martinson did a good job with that, Megan Oswald did a nice job with that."

In total, the Jimmies had 12 players find the scoresheet, led by Audrey Rodakowski's 17 points.

The Jimmies return to the floor at 5 p.m. on Feb. 2, when they take on Doane University.
