Jimmies men's volleyball sweep Kansas Wesleyan

Mar. 22—JAMESTOWN — The University of Jamestown men's volleyball returned home for the first time since Feb. 3 and got a sweep over Kansas Wesleyan University (25-6, 25-16, 25-14) on Friday, March 22, at Harold Newman Arena.

"I think we played pretty good," Jimmies senior Caylor Cox said. "I think we could've done a little better overall serving but as a team I think we played extremely well."

The Jimmies (15-1, 6-0) got out to an 11-0 lead and gave up the Coyotes' first points of the match on a service error to make it 11-1. The Jimmies continued to dominate from there getting a 25-6 first set win. Out of the six Coyotes' points, five were courtesy of Jimmies error. The Coyotes served to open the match but after the Jimmies got the opening point, the Jimmies Caylor Cox served through the next 10 points, including Cox getting three aces.

"We were jacked to be home and you could see our level was really high in that first set," Jimmies head coach Travers Cox said. "It makes a difference because playing at home you have that advantage and you could see it right there."

The six points are the least the Jimmies have given up in a set since they gave up six in a 25-6 first-set win over Central Christian on Feb. 24, 2021.

The Coyotes (11-10, 2-4) took an early 2-1 lead in the second set before the Jimmies fought back to take a 14-7 lead. The Jimmies kept it up from there getting a 25-16 second set win.

The Jimmies sprinted out of the gates to an early 4-0 lead in the third set before the Coyotes battled back to cut the deficit to 7-5. The Jimmies would not be denied though as they pushed the lead out to 20-12 and kept it going from there to get the 25-14 third set win.

In total in the three sets, the Jimmies had 42 kills and 8 errors for a .420 hitting percentage and the Coyotes had 13 kills and 18 errors for a negative .074 hitting percentage.

The Jimmies return to the court at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, when they host Dordt University.
