Jimmies men's hockey gets 3-2 win over McKendree

Jan. 12—JAMESTOWN — The University of Jamestown men's hockey team returned home for their first game in 34 days and overcame an early goal to get a 3-2 win over McKendree University on Friday, Jan. 12, at John L. Wilson Arena.

The Bearcats (8-11) got on the board first at the 12:59 mark of the opening period to make it 1-0. The Jimmies (17-6) got one back with 2:42 to go in the first when Logan Berggren picked up a turnover in front and had his shot saved but it went right to Carter Johnson who slotted it home to knot the game up at one. The Jimmies would not have to wait long for a second goal though as with 1:18 to go in the first, they went on the power play and would almost immediately make the Bearcats pay with a goal five seconds later to take the 2-1 lead.

23 seconds into the second period, the Bearcats would again find themselves having to kill of a penalty. This one lasted slightly longer than the previous one but would have the same result as 23 seconds into the man advantage, the Jimmies' Jordan Baranesky sniped one through traffic to push the Jimmies in front 3-1.

Over the first two periods, the Jimmies outshot the Bearcats 40-14.

The Bearcats would get one back in the final frame but it would not be enough as the Jimmies held onto the one-goal win.

The Jimmies have now scored a power-play goal in 10 consecutive games. Over that stretch, the Jimmies have gone 18-for-44 or 40%.

The two teams rematch at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13.
