Jimmies men's basketball falls short in 84-83 loss to Hastings

Feb. 3—HASTINGS, Neb. — The University of Jamestown men's basketball team saw their comeback attempt fall just short in an 84-83 loss to Hastings College on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Broncos' Lynn Farrell Arena.

The Jimmies (12-10, 7-7) took an early 11-10 lead in the first half before the Broncos responded with a run to 18-12. The Jimmies attempted to fight back by cutting the deficit to 22-17, but the Broncos (15-7, 10-4) would again respond by pushing their lead out to 31-19 with 5:48 to go in the first half. The Jimmies fought closer over the last six minutes as Antonio Chandler hit a layup at the buzzer to head into the half down 42-36.

The Jimmies were hanging in there through the first 10 minutes as they were only down 59-54 with 10 minutes to go in the game. Over the next five minutes, though, the Broncos started to pull away, taking a 70-60 lead. With just over two minutes to go, the Broncos stretched their lead out to 75-64, but the Jimmies would respond with a three to cut the deficit to 75-67 as they attempted to fight back. The Jimmies got it as close as 79-76 with 36 seconds to go, but a layup from the Broncos' Tyrique McMurrin appeared to put the game out of reach. The Jimmies' Will Cordes hit a three at the buzzer to bring it to a one point game at 84-83, but it wasn't enough.

The Jimmies look to bounce back at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, when they host Northwestern.
