Jimbo Fisher reacts to RB Devon Achane being selected 84th overall by the Miami Dolphins in the 2023 NFL Draft

Former Texas A&M running back Devon Achane will surely go down in Aggie history as one of the best to do it at the position, and after three incredible seasons with the program, the 21-year-old Missouri City, Texas native heard his name called on Day 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft, selected by the Miami Dolphins with the 84th overall pick in the third round.

What a journey it’s been for Achane, during his three incredible seasons with the Maroon and White, Achane rushed for 2,376 with 21 touchdowns and an average of 6.4 yards per carry and is joining by far the fastest team in the NFL with the likes of wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and running back Raheem Mostert, the Dolphins have assembled a track team.

After the announcement, Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher, who recruited Achane in the 2022 recruiting cycle, revealed just how proud he was to see Devon achieve his dreams on Friday night.

“Devon is a matchup problem for defenses and special teams,” Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher said. “He is an all-around football player who just happens to have world-class speed. He has natural ball skills as a receiver and caught a lot of balls for us. He will be a three-down back. He has great patience running between the tackles and people underestimate his strength and balance. He’s a good pass blocker, he’s tough and physical. On special teams, he is a dynamic kick returner. The area that is not talked about when it comes to Devon is his ability to pick things up. He is highly intelligent and is an easy guy to coach. I expect him to be a great professional player.”

Achane will not only provide 4.3 speed and versatility in the passing game but immediately contribute as a kick and punt returner on special teams. Knowing Miami head coach Mike McDaniel’s tendency to shake things up offensively, I would expect Achane to contribute all over the field in his first season.

Congratulations, Devon! Gig ‘Em!
