Jim Christian Believes BC Has Best Backcourt in ACC

"Christian raved about Bowman’s work ethic. “I’ve never seen anyone love playing basketball as much as him.”"

ESPN Basketball Insider Jeff Goodman took to Twitter on Wednesday to share some takeaways from his recent conversation with BC Head Coach Jim Christian--and Christian seemed to have a lot of confidence in his young BC squad.

Among other things, Christian claimed that Sophomore Ky Bowman and Junior Jerome Robinson are the best backcourt in the ACC.

Christian is obviously not going to say anything negative about his own team, but claiming to have the best backcourt in the ACC is another level of confidence. Last year, Ky Bowman and Jerome Robinson combined to score 34.7 PPG (17.4 and 17.3, respectively) in ACC play, with Bowman shooting a ridiculous 47% from three in conference games.

And while such hot shooting from Bowman may be unsustainable (the odds of him shooting that high of a percentage again are extremely low), Christian believes Bowman has bolstered the rest of his game enough to make him a better overall player.

Christian also seems to have a lot of faith in Freshman SF Steffon Mitchell, who showed solid flashes of skill in the Eagles' trip to Bahamas two weeks ago.

For a program that has gone 2-34 in conference play over the last two seasons, the first step is believing in yourself, and Christian--who some believe is in the hot seat--certainly believes.

Only time will tell if the Eagles truly have the best ACC backcourt.

Spoke to BC’s Jim Christian after team’s trip to Bahamas. Said Ky Bowman’s game at different level. Proven scorer, now making people better.

Bowman, Robinson & Illinois State grad transfer Deontae Hawkins locks as starters. Christian said Hawkins really skilled, will play 4 & 5.

Biggest surprise thus far for Jim Christian? Freshman forward Stefan Mitchell. “High IQ, tough, rebounds, makes a lot of winning plays.”
