Less than 24 hours before their season finale against the New England Patriots, the Jets announced a handful of roster moves on Saturday afternoon.

Most notably, the Jets waived kicker Sam Ficken and activated right guard Greg Van Roten from Injured Reserve.

Gang Green also signed defensive lineman Tanzel Smart and linebacker Sharif Finch to the active roster and elevated linebackers Noah Dawkins and Brady Sheldon from the practice squad.

Ficken made 13 of his 15 field goal attempts this season, but he also missed three extra points in nine games. The 28-year-old had a field goal and an extra point attempt blocked last week in the win over Cleveland. The Penn State product joined the Jets in 2019 and kicked in 15 games for them last season, hoping to lock down what had been a trouble spot for the team throughout the preseason, with Chandler Catanzaro announcing his retirement and Taylor Bertolet and Kaare Vedvik both failing to win the job.

Chase McLaughlin, claimed by the Jets in mid-December, will get kicking duties on Sunday. He went 4-for-5 on field goal attempts with Jacksonville earlier this season.

Meanwhile, plugging Van Roten back in at right guard should be provide a decent boost for the Jets’ O-line. The Long Island native had started 12 games at that spot before suffering a foot injury. The Jets designated Van Roten to return and opened his 21-day practice window this past Wednesday.

The Jets and Patriots go head-to-head in Foxboro, Mass. on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
