Jets pull free-agent contract off table for DT Suh

Ndamukong Suh was reportedly weighing multiple offers, including one from the New York Jets. However, the Jets may be reconsidering.

Jets owner Christopher Johnson told reporters at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando on Sunday that the team has withdrawn its offer to the free-agent defensive tackle.

"Our thinking just changed a bit," Johnson said without elaborating.

The owner decided Suh was not a fit in New York after meeting with general manager Mike Maccagnan, Sports Illustrated reports.

According to Albert Breer of The MMQB, New York's proposal to Suh included a deadline that essentially expired late last week.

Yahoo Sports reported Friday the Jets made the largest contract offer to Suh, despite never having met with Suh personally.

Suh canceled a planned free agency visit with the Oakland Raiders last week and returned to the Portland area after visiting the New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams.

NFL Network reported a great visit with the Rams was the reason Suh ran a reverse on the Raiders.

The 31-year-old was released by the Miami Dolphins on the first day of free agency in what was openly described as a "culture change," coupled with the departure last October of running back Jay Ajayi and a trade this month that sent wide receiver Jarvis Landry to the Cleveland Browns.

Suh, a three-time All-Pro with five Pro Bowl appearances, is a dominant interior pass rusher with elite credentials. But controversy has followed him throughout his career, as he has been fined numerous times over player-safety violation and suspended once for two games.

He has 51.5 career sacks in eight NFL seasons spent with the Detroit Lions (2010-14) and the Miami Dolphins (2015-17).
