Jets’ Mekhi Becton let’s shirt steal the show: ‘I’m going to make them eat their words’

Mekhi Becton came prepared to his press conference during his team’s minicamp this week.

Becton, the New York Jets’ 2020 first-round pick, has seen his status go from the highest of highs to questionable lows during his brief NFL career.

After a strong rookie year, Becton had a rough offseason a year ago. A knee injury followed, along with reports of weight gain during rehab to boot.

Many were wondering if Becton is now healthy. According to New York head coach Robert Saleh, he will be by training camp. The confidence in the offensive lineman is still there by all accounts as well.

“We’re all aware of the talent he possesses. The size, the athleticism, the physicality, all of it,” Saleh said. “If he takes care of his business, he can be transcendent.”

But other questions still lingered.

All things considered, Becton had a pretty good look during minicamp to handle those–Literally.

Wearing a blue shirt during his presser, Becton had a message on it.

In the middle, in big words, was “big bust.” A circle surrounding that said things like “out of shape” and “lazy.”

Becton took the attention away from many of those things to send that message with his shirt. He did so successfully.

“I’m going to make them eat they words,” Becton said.

It was short and sweet, but you could tell Becton had some feeling behind his statement.
