The New York Jets are the first team in the NFL with a head coaching vacancy to confirm that they have officially interviewed Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator, Arthur Smith.

The Jets took to social media on Monday to announce the interview and also posted an article about it on the team’s official website.

“The Jets have interviewed Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith for their head coaching vacancy,” beat writer Ethan Greenberg wrote.

While the Jets are the first to announce a completed interview with Smith publicly, they aren’t the first to have met with the Titans’ offensive coordinator, who is one of the hottest names on the open market.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday morning that Smith did in fact interview for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach opening on Sunday night, just hours after the Titans were eliminated from the playoffs.

Also per Schefter, Smith is set to interview with the Jets (which has already happened), Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, and then the Detroit Lions on Tuesday.

Smith has been the Titans’ offensive coordinator for each of the past two seasons and called the plays for what was one of the best offenses in the NFL since Week 7 of last season.
