Jeremy Lin gets green light from Jonas Valanciunas to wear No. 17 with Raptors

Jeremy Lin is apparently ready to hit the court with the Toronto Raptors, even if he has yet to sign his new contract.

The soon-to-be Raptor has taken to Instagram to announce that he’ll be wearing No. 17 when he officially signs with Toronto. And he’s apparently got the blessing of the beloved former Raptor who recently wore that number.

The former Hawk confirms in the comments section of his IG post that he contacted Jonas Valanciunas in order to get permission to wear the number, which is a classy move but not entirely necessary. JV will always be a fan favourite north of the border, but seeing that his No. 17 has not been retired by the organization, it was simply up for grabs.

Lin is expected to clear waivers on Wednesday at 5 p.m. EST, which would allow him to sign with the Raptors and potentially suit up for Wednesday night’s home game against Washington. Toronto could surely use Lin in the lineup, serving as the primary playmaker off the bench while Fred VanVleet is sidelined for at least the next three weeks with an injured thumb.
