Jeff Van Gundy to return for Game 2 of NBA Finals, Mike Breen still out

Jeff Van Gundy will make his return to ESPN on Sunday night, though Mike Breen will have to wait until the series shifts back to the East Coast.

Van Gundy will join Mark Jones and Mark Jackson on the call for Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night at the Chase Center in San Francisco after missing Game 1 of the series due to COVID-19, according to The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand.

Breen, who also missed Game 1 due to the coronavirus, has not yet been cleared to return yet. He is set to be back on the call for Game 3 on Wednesday night in Boston.

Van Gundy missed Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night due to the coronavirus, as did ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski. It’s unclear if either of them actually tested positive for the coronavirus. Plenty speculated about Van Gundy’s health during Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals, which Breen was also ruled out for due to coronavirus protocols.

It’s unclear if Wojnarowski will be able to join the crew on Sunday night, too.

The Golden State Warriors will host the Celtics on Sunday night in the second game of the series. Boston holds a 1-0 lead after a massive fourth-quarter run gave it a 120-108 win in Game 1. Golden State is currently listed as a -4.5 point favorite on BetMGM.
