Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum Celtic stats snapshot: Boston’s dynamic duo

You may have noticed that the Boston Celtics’ star wings of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum have been everything for that team so far this season, tearing through opposing defenses like a hot knife through butter.

All four of the team’s early wins this season came if not at the hands of, on the backs of the Bostonian terrible twosome. If you might be doubting your assessment because of bias, you shouldn’t — their eye-test excellence isn’t just a figment of your imagination, or the product of green-tinted lenses; the Celtics’ dynamic duo sit atop a number of NBA statistical leader boards at the start of this week.

For total field goals, Brown leads the league with 79, and Tatum isn’t far behind in third with 66. For total field goal attempts, the Missouri native has the second-most with 146, and the Georgian tied for third with the Portland Trail Blazers’ CJ McCollum at 132.

Brown and Tatum are second and third respectively for two-point field goals attempted with 92 and 91, with the former tied with the Washington WizardsBradley Beal at No. 1 overall for 2-point field goals made (62).

Brown is also second in the league for total steals (12), tied with teammate Jeff Teague and a number of other players early in the season.

In fact, the only place you might see as a potential negative is that both of the duo rank highly in total minutes played in the league with Tatum third (242 minutes) and Brown tied for fourth with the Phoenix SunsMikal Bridges.

We say “potential” because a lot of these totals wouldn’t be likely without those heavy minutes, but it’s been something of a necessity for the pair to play so much for the Celtics to have a solid shot at winning against tougher opponents.

At least until teammate Kemba Walker returns.
