Jaylen Brown comes up big on anniversary of best friend's death

Jaylen Brown is no stranger to coming out to the Bay Area and leaving with a victory, as was the case on Friday in Boston's 105-100 victory over Golden State.

But Friday's win, Boston's fourth on Golden State's home court in the last five seasons, was different.

On the eve of playing at Golden State two years ago, Brown's best friend Trevin Steede passed away.

"I had all the confidence in the world today," Brown told reporters after Friday's win. "Today is the sunset of my best friend (Trevin Steede)."

Steede, who passed away November 15, 2017, and Brown were high school teammates.

Brown said Steede wore jersey number 22 and at the time of his death, he was 22 years old.

So how many points do you think Jaylen scored on Friday night?

Yup. He had 22 points.

"It was great for me to be able to score 22 points tonight," Brown said.

Their friendship began when Brown transferred to Wheeler High School in Marietta, Ga.

Brown didn't exactly fit in right away with his new classmates, spending his first few days at school eating lunch by himself.

But one day Steede invited him to eat lunch with him, and the two hit it off immediately and became the best of friends.

"Ever since then, that's been my brother," Brown said at the time.

Brown also honored Steede with a message written on his sneakers.
