He has 25 passing touchdowns to just three interceptions on the season, his quarterback rating currently exceeds the mark set by 2019 Joe Burrow and his Heisman candidacy is ascending as he now sits just third in odds to win the award.
National pundits are starting to take notice of the prolific season that Daniels is having. CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli recently updated his quarterback rankings, and Daniels climbed from No. 2 to the top spot following Week 8.
Here’s everything Fornelli said about Daniels, who jumped Michael Penix Jr. after a rough outing in a slim win over Arizona State.
I’m pretty sure Daniels is the first player to climb to the No. 1 spot following a win over Army. He deserves to be here, but it’s not just because he accounted for 285 total yards and four touchdowns in LSU’s 62-0 win, though it didn’t hurt. Daniels climbs to the top spot this week because of his performance all season long and because Michael Penix Jr. did not play well in Washington’s win against Arizona State.
If Daniels continues his level of play when LSU next takes the field on the road against Alabama, he’s likely to emerge from that game as the clear favorite to win the Heisman.
