Jarvis Landry and Mark Ingram II make new jersey number changes

The New Orleans Saints have a couple of key jersey number changes to make note of before you watch the game on Sunday. NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill reports that the wide receiver Jarvis Landry is changing his jersey number from No. 80 to 5.

This will now be Landry’s third NFL jersey number, as he wore No. 14 on the Miami Dolphins and No. 80 for the Cleveland Browns. No. 80 was also his number in both college and high school, so many expected him to keep it. We’ll be on the lookout for his reasoning in the surprise change. There were rumors of Tyrann Mathieu wanting to switch to the No. 5 originally, to show respect to his New Orleans upbringing, but that does not appear to be the case anymore.

That No. 5 jersey Landry will now be waring became available recently after Mark Ingram II decided to go back to No. 22. Ingram wore the No. 22 from 2013 to 2018. He’s previously gone into games in Nos. 14 and 28, but he’s used the “deuce deuce” more often than anything else with New Orleans. No. 22, of course, became available after C.J. Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Eagles last week.

Players change jersey numbers often in the weeks leading up to the regular season opener, at which point they’re essentially set in stone. So more changes could be coming.
