Jarrett Allen sheds light on mix-up with Terry Rozier, P.J. Washington

The Charlotte Hornets stunned the basketball world on Sunday as they earned their first win of the 2020-21 NBA season by knocking off the Brooklyn Nets, who won both of their first two games of the season by over 20 points.

While Brookyn’s energy level on Sunday wasn’t exactly where it usually is, the Nets didn’t give up on the game until the final buzzer. With that being the case, the game was bound to present potentially tense moments — one of which occurred in the fourth quarter.

Jarrett Allen tried to set a flare screen for Kevin Durant late in the fourth quarter but was called for a foul as his screen sent P.J. Washington to the floor. As he debated the ref and made his way toward the defensive end, Allen walked over Washington.

Once Allen caught himself, he received a greeting from Hornets guard Terry Rozier, who shoved him to the ground.

“I didn’t agree with the call, you know how we players are,” Allen said on a Zoom call with reporters when asked to explain what happened on the play after the loss. “So, I was looking at the ref, talking to him. I promise I didn’t mean anything malicious — I didn’t see the guy on the ground. I was walking back looking at the ref and somebody pushed me over and it was a double-technical [foul].”
