Janelle Monáe Came Out of "Cornrowing Retirement" to Give Her Friend Birthday Braids
Call me Captain Obvious, but Janelle Monae is really talented. The singer-songwriter has been killing it musically for years, and more recently, her acting career has started to seriously thrive. But if you thought that's where her skills stop, you thought wrong. Monae is apparently a wiz when it comes to cornrows, and if you're lucky enough to be in her inner circle, she might even bestow her services upon you.
On Monday, September 7, leadership speaker Jovian Zayne shared a multi-slide Instagram post giving a peek into her birthday celebration. And the highlight of her night would be the highlight of anyone's night: Monae gave Zayne the gift a freshly braided hair.
"Hot wings and hair braiding. Chile puhhhleaseeee, I don’t have to do my hair for a while?! You can’t tell me nothing! @janellemonae said sit down and let me put these tresses down for nap. Ha👏🏾le 👏🏾lu!" Zayne wrote in the caption. The third and final slide of the post shows Monae separating a piece of Zayne's hair as the birthday girl looks and sounds elated to be getting her hair done, practically singing, "Birthday cornrows!"
Monae shared Zayne's post on her own Instagram Stories, writing, "JZ brought me out of cornrowing retirement. That's how you know it's real love."
Monae herself has been sporting a new hairstyle recently. Over the past few days, she has posted a few pictures showing a curly look in a gorgeous auburn shade. The shorter style appears to have one longer strand in the back. It's further proof she has super chic instincts about her own hair and others'.
We're not saying Janelle Monae should consider launching her own hair-care line but… OK, yeah, Janelle Monae should consider launching her own hair-care line.
