Jamestown receives 9 inches of snow

Dec. 14—JAMESTOWN — A winter storm dropped 9 inches of snow Tuesday into Wednesday morning, Dec. 13-14, in Jamestown, according to measurements taken at 6 a.m. at the North Dakota State Hospital.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for the Jamestown area until 6 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15. In the winter storm warning, the National Weather Service in Bismarck says blowing snow is expected with an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow and wind gusts as high as 40 mph.

At about 10 p.m. Tuesday, the North Dakota Department of Transportation and the North Dakota Highway Patrol closed all lanes of Interstate 94 from Dickinson to Fargo due to blowing and accumulating snow, poor visibility and icy conditions.

At 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, the North Dakota Department of Transportation and the North Dakota Highway Patrol opened Interstate 94 from Dickinson to Fargo. The NDDOT said roads are ice covered and travel alerts are still in effect.

A travel alert remains in effect for Barnes, Dickey, Kidder, LaMoure, Logan, McIntosh Ransom and Stutsman counties. A travel alert means conditions are such that motorists can still travel in these areas but should be advised of rapidly changing winter driving conditions.

In Jamestown, Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser said individuals with just a car should not go anywhere. He said roads outside of Jamestown have a lot of snow on them.

"It's best to stay put until people can get things cleared off a little bit," he said.

At about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Kaiser said the visibility was good. He said some roads had a little drifting.

He said if anyone needs to travel to have a winter survival kit.

City crews were expected to start clearing snow Wednesday morning, Dec. 14, in residential areas in Jamestown. City crews will begin clearing snow at 11 p.m. Wednesday in the downtown business district, and all vehicles should be removed from downtown streets, avenues and alleyways.
