James Charles rose to popularity after becoming the first male CoverGirl spokesperson. Charles was first noticed thanks to his creative makeup looks shared on Instagram, eventually launching a YouTube channel that has since grown to over 1 million followers. But with all the fans and newfound fame, Charles recently announced that he’s planning to take a break from one of his biggest platforms: YouTube.

The 18-year-old makeup enthusiast announced the pending break on Snapchat, saying that he’s been struggling to find his creativity. The pop culture site Clevver reported him as saying, “I need to take a break from filming and from doing makeup. I’ve been trying to film a lot recently and literally every single time I film it has turned out so bad and I just have been so unhappy with it and it’s just destroying me on the inside, which sounds so f***ing ridiculous.”

Charles also went on to share, “My heart is in creative makeup, and recently I have been so f***ing uninspired and so unhappy with what I’ve been putting out. Forcing the creativity is destroying me mentally. I don’t know what I want to do with my channel. I don’t know what I wanna be filming. I don’t know what content I want to produce. I just don’t know.”

That said, this isn’t the first time the CoverBoy has expressed feelings of wanting to take a break, and if history repeats itself his break won’t last very long. A few weeks ago he posted a video explaining he was taking a posting hiatus because he wanted to revamp his entire camera setup. “I actually did snap that I wouldn’t be posting at all this week, because I’m in the middle of redoing everything from lighting, camera, lenses, graphics, and everything on this channel,” he shared. “I am so excited that I now have so many cool ideas and concepts in the works, and you guys will be seeing them very very soon.”

Even though he said he was taking a break, he quickly posted three new videos online. He just couldn’t stay away. TBD on how long his YouTube break lasts this time around.
