Jalil Tucker, nation’s No. 4 athlete, commits to Oregon Ducks originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

Heading into its annual ‘Saturday Night Live’ event, the Oregon Ducks had no cornerback commits in the 2022 cycle.

However, the Ducks hosted an elite pair of CBs from Lincoln High School in San Diego in Jahlil Florence and Jalil Tucker.

Despite publicly saying the two are not a package deal, the lure of playing together at the next level was strong. Florence committed to Oregon on August 12th and eight days later, Tucker followed suit.

Tucker chose the Ducks over Florida State and Washington. The 6-foot, 180-pound athlete held 22 total offers from schools such as Michigan, USC and more.

247Sports composite rating has him as the nation’s No. 6 athlete and No. 144 overall player. However, 247Sports evaluators are higher on him, ranking him as the nation’s No. 4 athlete and No. 61 player.

In fact, 247Sports Recruiting Analyst Greg Biggins compares Tucker to Darius Slay and projects him as a second round NFL Draft pick.

“At 6-0, 180 pounds, Tucker has a long, athletic frame and is one of the fastest players in the state,” he wrote in June 2021. “He ran a 10.78-100m as a freshman and was expected to run in the low 10.5 range as a junior but injuries cut short his season. His speed shows up on the football field, on both sides of the ball. He's not just straight line fast, he shows wiggle and change of direction as a receiver, and is explosive getting in and out of his breaks at corner. He has long arms and looks like he may not be done growing. He has excellent ball skills, is a tough, competitive kid and plays with a nice edge in his game. His upside is extremely high and he has all the tools to be a high round draft pick at the next level.”

Tucker had interest in playing wide receiver in college which was why Florida State made his top-3, but Oregon likely slots him as a cornerback.

With his commitment, Tucker joins the 2022 Ducks recruiting class as the 19th prospect to verbally commit to Oregon.

If Tucker was listed as a cornerback, he’d be rated by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 9 cornerback in 2022.
