Yahoo Sports’ Krysten Peek shares her evaluation of Maryland Terrapins F Jalen Smith.
KRYSTEN PEEK: Jalen Smith grew up with the nickname Sticks because he was always so tall and skinny. But Sticks is a completely different player now. Smith has filled out his 6'10" frame and was one of the best forwards playing for Maryland in the Big Ten this year. He averaged 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds and had an impressive 4 threes in a win over Indiana late in the season.
Smith runs the floor real well for his size and has a strong pick and pop game extending to the 3-point line. He has some room to expand his back to the basket game and needs to improve on creating his own shot off the elbow. Smith plays a similar game to Myles Turner, who was a lottery pick in the 2015 draft. Both are similar in size and are speedy bigs with athleticism. Right now Smith is a projected late first rounder, but he could surprise a lot of people and be picked up in the late teens or early 20s.
