Jake Paul declares himself the ‘new face of the fight game’ after Tyron Woodley win
CLEVELAND – After selling out 16,000 seats, it’s clear YouTube star Jake Paul is also a combat sports star.
Paul notched his fourth professional win as a boxer when he outpointed former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley at Sunday’s pay-per-view event, which took place at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland.
“Who’s doing it bro?” Paul asked MMA Junkie. “This is crazy – selling out this whole-ass arena, a whole different audience. This wasn’t a boxing audience here tonight, doing a bigger gate, more revenue than Conor McGregor in his 18th fight, selling hundreds and tens and thousands and millions of pay-per-views. I need a moment to reflect on this sh*t. I’ve been going on nonstop for 18 months, and we’ll see what’s next.”
Although prominent figures in the combat sports world are having a hard time giving Paul any credit, they continue to mention his name. Following his win over Woodley, Paul received reactions from the likes of UFC stars Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz and Daniel Cormier.
“There’s a new face of the fight game,” Paul said. “That’s it.
“Tonight showed my ability. It got more people interested. The biggest names in the sport are tweeting about me, so it’s already on a whole other level now.”
Paul is unsure what’s next after the biggest win of his career, but says he’ll consider granting Woodley his rematch wish if he follows through with their deal of getting a tattoo.
