Jags injury report: WR DJ Chark, CB Sidney Jones listed as non-participants Wednesday

The Jacksonville Jaguars had six players who didn’t participate in practice Wednesday, including starters Andrew Norwell (forearm), Cam Robinson (non-COVID-19 illness), and DJ Chark Jr. (ribs) on offense, and Sidney Jones IV (Achilles) on defense.

Norwell started in Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers but exited it early. Tyler Shatley replaced him and has a chance to remain in his spot as Norwell was ruled out. Earlier in the week, coach Doug Marrone said the left guard spot would come down to either Shatley or rookie Ben Bartch, but only time will tell as to what the staff decides.

As for Chark, his situation will be worth monitoring because he’s one of the Jags’ top weapons. While he hasn’t had the season he was hoping for, he’d be a valuable weapon for veteran quarterback Mike Glennon, who is getting his first Jags start this Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

As for Jones, he missed Sunday’s game against the Steelers and Chris Claybrooks was inserted into the lineup. Unfortunately, he didn’t practice either with a core muscle injury, leaving uncertainty behind who will start alongside cornerback Tre Herndon this week.

Laviska Shenault Jr. (hamstring), James O’Shaughnessy (knee), Gardner Minshew II (thumb), and Tyler Eifert (concussion) were among the notables on offense who were limited. Of the four, Shenault practicing is huge as he missed last week’s sessions and the practice secessions for Week 10, too.

Minshew’s situation has already been determined for Sunday with Glennon being given the nod. The second-year quarterback will likely continue to be limited and the Jags’ staff will likely re-evaluate him next week to see if he can return to the field as a starter.

As for O’Shaughnessy and Eifert, their situations could leave the Jags short-handed at tight end if they aren’t ready. The Team has Ben Ellefson and Tyler Davis on the roster still, but they would likely have to activate a player (or players) off their practice squad to join the two.

Lastly, there were four limited players on defense in Dakota Allen, Jarrod Wilson, Shaq Quarterman, and Abry Jones. Allen has been on the injury report with his ankle injury the last few weeks and has missed a few games. The fact that he’s limited means he could be nearing a return though.

However, the potential of Wilson not suiting up would be huge as he’s one of the Jags’ best starters this season. Either Andrew Wingard or Brandon Watson would be called on to replace him, and the team also signed safety Doug Middleton to their 53-man roster Wednesday.

As for Quarterman and Jones, we discussed them earlier on Wednesday. They were limited due to being designated to return from injured reserve and the team now has 20 days to activate both or either to their 53-man unit.
